PNG to WebP converter
Turn a PNG into a web-ready WebP.
Prepare a PNG for modern web delivery without sending the file to a conversion server. The tool preserves the decoded canvas dimensions and lets you inspect the WebP result before saving it.

Format decision
When is WebP a better output than PNG?
PNG is lossless and dependable for sharp graphics, while a lossy WebP can be substantially smaller for photographs or textured artwork. The right result depends on the image, so compare the preview and measured file size rather than assuming conversion always helps.
Keep in mind: A tiny palette logo, pixel-art image, or screenshot with crisp text may not benefit from lossy WebP. Keep the original PNG and compare both files in the real page layout before replacing a production asset.
Three local steps
Convert, inspect, then keep.
The page constrains the source format and starts with the intended output, while leaving the quality decision visible.
Choose one PNG
Open a .png image up to 40 MB. The browser keeps it in the current tab while the converter works.
Choose WebP quality
Use a higher value for sharp edges and a lower value only when the visual trade-off is acceptable.
Compare the output
Review the preview and file-size change, then download the .webp only when it is a genuine improvement.
Common questions
PNG to WebP, clearly explained.
Will PNG transparency remain transparent?
WebP supports alpha transparency and the converter does not add a matte for WebP output. The browser must support WebP canvas encoding; the tool rejects a silent fallback to a different format.
Is WebP always smaller than PNG?
No. Photographs and textured artwork often shrink, while simple or already optimized PNG files may show little benefit. The result panel reports the actual size.
Does converting resize the image?
No. This converter keeps the decoded width and height. Use the image resizer when the destination needs different pixel dimensions.
Other format jobs
Choose the route that matches the source.
Need a different pair? The general converter supports JPEG, PNG, WebP, and compatible HEIC input from one workspace.
