HEIC to PNG converter
Convert HEIC to PNG without losing transparency.
Open an iPhone or camera HEIC file and export a broadly compatible PNG. Unlike a JPEG route, PNG preserves an alpha channel, so transparent areas stay transparent with no matte decision.

Format decision
When does HEIC to PNG beat HEIC to JPG?
Choose PNG when the image contains transparency, sharp edges, text, or screenshots that lossy JPEG encoding would smudge, or when the destination accepts PNG specifically. Choose the JPG route for ordinary photos headed to forms that expect them; PNG files of photographs are usually far larger.
Keep in mind: HEIC files can contain image sequences, depth information, or variants that a browser decoder cannot reproduce. FormatTailor exports one decoded image; unsupported files fail locally instead of being uploaded elsewhere. Photographs saved as PNG can be several times larger than as HEIC.
Three local steps
Convert, inspect, then keep.
The page constrains the source format and starts with the intended output, while leaving the quality decision visible.
Choose one HEIC file
Select a .heic or .heif photo up to 40 MB. The page rejects other source formats so the result matches this workflow.
Review the decode
Check the preview and dimensions. Transparent regions of supported sources remain transparent in the PNG output.
Download the PNG
Inspect the reported size — PNG is lossless and can be large — then save the generated .png file.
Common questions
HEIC or HEIF to PNG, clearly explained.
Does HEIC to PNG keep transparency?
Yes where the decoded source actually contains an alpha channel. PNG stores transparency natively, so no background matte is applied, unlike the HEIC-to-JPG route.
Is the PNG smaller than the original HEIC?
Usually not. HEIC is a highly efficient photographic codec while PNG uses lossless compression, so photos often grow substantially. Pick this route for transparency, text, or editability rather than file size.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. Decoding and export run entirely in your browser tab, and closing the tab clears the working session.
